Originaires de Los Angeles , le groupe South Central Cartel (qui s'appelait a l'origine Mafia Style) est composé de Prodeje, Havok Da Rymesman, Young Prod, LV Da Voice ,DJ Kaos et Dj Gripp.Il émergèrent au début des années 90 (le groupe se forma en 1986) avec leur 1er album "South Central Madness" sortit sur leur propre label Gangstas With
Knowledge (GWK).Cet album ce vendit a plus de 200000 copies(ce qui est bien pour un album sortit sous un label indépendant).Puis après cet album (qui est une réussite) ils contactèrent Russell Simmons , le patron de Def Jam qui voulu les rencontrer.Il les signa sur son label et ils sortirent peu de temps après leur second album "N Gatz We Truss".cet album marcha très bien et ils commencèrent a se faire un nom dans le milieu. Les Thèmes abordés reste habituels , le sexe , la drogue mais leur style plutot G Funk et leurs flows rendent leurs albums très originaux.
